Fox just announced that next year, it is planning to broadcast a three-hour live version of hit musical Grease, that will feature "a young ensemble cast" which has yet to be named, and hopes to "reintroduce the great music and timeless story to an entirely new generation."
Grease, written by the Broadway team of Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs, first hit in 1971 and became a Hollywood hit in1978 thanks to Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. The Fox production - currently being talked about as Grease Live - will feature a young ensemble cast and select few from the original musical.
The announcement comes after NBC's massively successful TV version of The Sound of Music, starring Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer. The show drew a whopping 18 million viewers and prompted NBC to develop more classic musicals for television, luckily for us!
