Shailene Woodley's 'White Bird' heads to Magnolia

by - aprilie 19, 2014

The film from the often-controversial director Gregg Araki best known for 'Mysterious Skin' has finally got North American rights for the film from Magnolia Pictures. There is no set release date but they plan to release the film later this year. The film is set in 1988 and centers around a young girl named Kat whose mother mysteriously disappears. Kat barely acknowledges that her mother is gone until she comes home on a college break and begins to come to terms with the disappearance. As she begins to confront the truth surrounding her mother's vanishing, she has to face her own denial about the events involved in it.

The film also stars Eva Green, Christopher Meloni, Shiloh Fernandez, Gabourey Sidibe, Thomas Jane and Angela Bassett. The film is written by Araki himself based on the hit novel of the same name by Laura Kasischke. The film received mixed reviews from critics calling it“ naughty, campy and wildly uneven.”

The deal was negotiated for Magnolia by Dori Begley and Peter Van Steemburg with CAA and Wild Bunch on behalf of the filmmakers.
